Chunking: Similar to blistering in that pieces of rubber break loose from the tread but, happens due to some sort of a failure rather than abnormal track conditions. Can happen due to extreme lateral tyre loadings that may be caused by extreme cornering forces with a heavy fuel load.
g-force: The driver experiences longitudinal and lateral g-forces when accelerating, braking and cornering. When we say 5g under braking, it means that the driver is pulling 5 times the gravitational force in the longitudinal direction.
Ride height: It’s otherwise known as Ground Clearance. It’s the distance between the lowest part of the car and the track.
Bottoming out: It’s nothing but the car’s bottom touching the track due to (1) low ride height and/or (2) huge compressive forces that the car experiences in certain corners like Eau Rouge at Spa-Francorchamps.
